It helps if you're already insane.

Ah, the joy of caregiving. Although this was taken after Dad's lung infection in December 2007 B.C. (Before Cancer), it's a picture that speaks a thousand words. It verbalises so beautifully why I am an excellent caregiver, and why I have not lost my mind over all the stresses, fears, worries, anxieties .. there was no mind to lose.

P.S. the mad caregiver - me - is on the right; the silently suffering sedate care recipient - Dr. Tonsils of egg-painting fame - is on the left.

P.P.S. Don't miss the green snake in the background .. oh, all right, it's just a garden hose.

Good morning Nazu,
I just visited your blog for the first time since you left that kind comment on my blog.

It's Tuesday morning on the first day of my new job. I'll be caring for 2-year-old human beings. I'm a high school French teacher by trade, but I have downsized.

This post about you and your dad really touched me. We all cared for my dad when he got a brain tumor. Then we cared for my dear mom when she was diagnosed with a different tumor. Nothing made me feel more human.

My heart goes out to both of you.

Please publish more photos on your blog. They are wonderful.

Great photo.

I am not caring for my Mom full-time, since she and Dad live in Colorado, and my husband and I live in California. However, I have been spending several weeks at a time there with her. (Especially during and after hospital stays.) I have a taste, a small one, of what you are going through.

It is difficult! You are smart to reserve some time for just you. I send you any strength I can find, here in the stack of survival gear I use.
